Odyssey: "Tell the Story"

Today I will:
~Apply my knowledge of vocabulary terms by using them in a 7-minute free-writing activity.
~Apply knowledge of diction to The Odyssey by collaboratively completing the "Tell the Story" handout

Key terms:
Diction: the way in which words are used in speech or writing
Inferencethe act or process of reaching a conclusion about something from known facts or evidence
Muse: a person who causes someone else to have ideas about creating a work of art : a person who inspires an artist, writer, etc; any one of the nine sister goddesses of song and poetry and the arts and sciences in Greek mythology

Agenda:
Warm-up: Discussion/recap of hero's journey work (make sure you turn this in after our discussion)

Before we write: Write flash cards with 3 more vocabulary words
7-minute writing prompt: "Tell the Story" // focus on making powerful word choices



~Before we read: review diction (word choice): 5-min video


~Read "Tell the Story" together aloud; then annotate (focus on diction)
~Investigating Diction: together, then work in table groups

Homework:
~Complete the "Tell the Story" handout, if you didn't finish it in class
~Honors: work on getting a copy of your chosen book

Today I will: ~Apply my knowledge of imagery, dialogue, and mood to my own rough draft and participate in self-revision activities Agenda: Warm-up:  Empty the Cup, Fill the Cup time outside ~Self-revision: I will guide you through re-reading your draft three times, focusing on a different area each time: Imagery , dialogue , & mood ~Make comments on your own document so that you know what changes to make later. ~Peer revision: Log onto Google Classroom // please focus during this; it's super important to take this opportunity to get fresh eyes on your writing.
